New Allotment, Heavy Clay Wet Soil, Advice Please

  • Many thanks to all of you with positive comments, the committee are more than happy to have a miniature wild flower meadow, it would not be weeds! just didn't like the idea of the soil initially being left for 2 years as per all the known experts advice. Yes when you live in an inner city & have no view of greenery whatsoever you do wait 7 years for an allotment with the hope that it will be aesthetically pleasing & tranquil.

    Either give it up or grow stuff to eat.
    You can sow Green Manure...Phacelia...and some small amounts of lavender in one tiny part as this will attract bees and butterflies
    People work on allotments for many reasons such as the reward of regular hard work , the companionship of other like minded people and above all to just Be With Nature.
    Ask the committee if you can share the plot with someone who wants to grow veg and then you can "slot in " with what they do and then all are happy.
