Robinia pseudoacacia Lace Lady

I have had a Robinia pseudoacacia Lacy Lady for some years now. I repotted it two years ago and had a lovely show last year. This year the teee started to bud, then suddenly stopped growing in May. I scrapped the bark, and it’s green, so I’m assuming it’s still alive. However on closer inspection of the trunk, the bark appears to be splitting. I’ve read about honey disease, but am at a loss to what’s caused this. If it is dead, am I able to reuse the compost to plant another tree in the same pot? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't think it's worth risking a new tree to possibly diseased soil. Best to spread the soil around a flower bed and use new fresh compost for planting your next tree.
