Question about blackcurrents

NotyalcaNotyalca Posts: 134
So blackcurrents grow on last years growth.  My blackcurrent is in a position where I want to make sure it doesn’t get too big and would want to cut it back when it did get too big for its position.

This is the first year I’ve had it and had fruit on it, hence why I’m asking..

My question is, does fruit only grow on last years growth or does it grow on all old growth?

That's why when you prune it you remove the oldest wood.  :)

When you have picked the luscious ripe fruit, cut about a third of the old wood out. New shoots come from the bottom which then fruit the following couple of years.
