Camellia rosthoriana 'Cupido®' adult height/width

Papi JoPapi Jo Posts: 4,254
Anyone has this lovely little camellia planted in their garden? I bought it in the spring and am looking for a definitive place in my garden. It will probably go under a pergola, in half-shade and I would like some info. on its adult size. I'm looking for something like 150-200 cm high and 100 cm width. Details I can find on the Web vary a lot...

  • This post is old but I’m wondering how did you’re camellia do? I’ve recently bought the same variety and am looking to grow it in a pot. Would you say it needs a sheltered position?

I'm sorry to report that my Camellia rosthoriana 'Cupido' is not doing very well. It does not grow and has few flowers. Probably not planted in the best of soils, but a bit late to move it now...
Here's a pic taken exactly one year ago...

  • Well I think it looks quite nice in the picture, dainty! I would say I’ve generally had good experiences moving camellias so maybe it would be okay if you wanted to move it? Indeed my granddad moved a mature specimen, well over a decade old, and it’s still thriving in its now 20 year old (or so) spot.

Has the cupido flowered worse this year than in the picture?

Not looking much better (even worse) this year...
  •  hmm it is looking a little scraggly 🤔 What conditions is it in? If be tempted to give it a relatively hard prune, though I’m no expert..
