Poorly Salix Flamingo

My Salix Flamingo leaves have suddenly gone all brown, dry and papery. It was fine and green recently. I am not sure if I am over/under watering. Could anyone enlighten me as to what they prefer with regards to feeding and watering. Thank you

99 times out of 100 the trouble with Salix flamingo is due to under watering. Occasionally strong sunlight can burn the variegated leaves which don't have the protection of green leaves.
Its very hard to overwater a Salix ... I would give yours a bucket full of water every other day and cross your fingers.

Thanks Dove, I will give it a good drink! I forgot to mention it is in a container so should I feed it also?

Dove, just to say thanks to your reply, my Salix is improving, slowly but surely the leaves are greening up!  :)

Glad to hear it  :). Just remember your little tree is a close relative of those big willows you see growing on river banks with their toes in the water.

Is it in a container? Is so how big and what's the compost like?

Yes Dove, it is in one of those containers that is wider at the top and narrows at the bottom. It is one of those 'lollipop type', and is approx 5 and a half feet tall it is against a fence for protection. Not sure about soil but I have grit on top.

I think I know the sort of container you mean. I really doubt that is going to be big enough for your Salix.  Is there anywhere you can plant it in the ground?
