Right tree for near the sea?

Hello, I’m looking for a remembrance tree to survive on the coast in North Yorkshire. It’s an exposed site on a hill about 500 metres from the sea. The soil is usually very wet but not sure of type. Native hedges grow well. Hazel seems to be happy. Anyone any experience of what might work? Willow has been suggested but not sure which kind best. Thanks

    What about a purple leaved contorted hazel if hazel grows well there? It has apparently pinkish catkins in spring, lovely bare contorted branches in winter. Grows quite slowly though.
