Dahlia cropping

Am I too late to crop the tops off my dahlias? Seem to remember doing it last year to help them bush out and prevent them from getting leggy, however this year (since they are all the same ones as I had last year, all survived in situ) they all look very healthy and bushy, so I'm wondering whether I should even be considering it...?

If they are already bushy, then no. If you have a single stem running to a flower bud, then Yes.

Unless that stem is already hollow, then pinching it out will not help.
