Wilting wisteria

Hi. We have a wisteria that seems to be troubled.  One bit that was bidding stopped.  Now another are appears to be dieing back.  It’s long established and usually does really well.  Can’t see any bugs

Simple thirst?  Honey fungus?  Graft failure?  Vine weevil larvae eating the roots?   Could be lots of things.  Have a look here - https://www.rhs.org.uk/advice/profile?PID=777

Have you had a prolonged spell of hot weather? Planted things around it that are soaking up the available water? With Wisteria being thirsty plants, it might just need a thorough soak and a feed, perhaps.

  • Thanks.  Will keep monitoring. It is watered and no signs of any of the above xxx

We've got the same problem though not as bad as yours. I'm wondering now whether the very hot weather, coupled with a mass of blossom put a lot of stress on the wisteria? I hadn't watered it much before the flowers came out as ours is well established but perhaps I should have done. Also I've got some bearded irises and crocosmia growing underneath, which would also have taken up moisture.

  • I’m not sure Lizzie this is a garden we work on. It’s an old wisteria.  Before it flowered it was budding then one part of it seemed to be affected.  Then more growth and on return this week the part that looked healthy is now wilting - I think it’s a waiting game. They are deep rooted so I wouldn’t have thought a couple of irises and crocosmia should affect it but we’re still learning 😊
