It looks like you've got plenty of garden there. Stop torturing it and plant it out!
Buy a new one and put it in a pot for a while.
    In London. Keen but lazy.

It also helps to give them a good topdress of grit. It keeps the roots cool and slows down evaporation from the soil.

Only use pots like that for final potting or plants with a limited lifespan by the way. You'd need to cut the pot away from the plant in a couple of years when it needs potting on again due to the lip around the top.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

good advise on here, everything covered, I lost several like that, got advice from a nursery I go to, they had one looking like that, she said wind burn and sun scorch, sorry, it didnt survive!  Lost a lot, they are from woodlands in Japan, my garden faces north, but is big, I thought it was sheltered, we made a little Japanese area in a corner of the patio near a fence and greenhouse, I water daily, yes they are in ericacous compost, and get a top dress each spring, some have been moved to shadier spots. YET, I went to visit gardens open for local Hospital League of Friends, they have Acers in pots, near the sea south facing and doing fine.
