    AnniD, I don't think it's solanum.  I can see why you suggested it from the look of the flowers but the leaves are wrong I think.  And Bob, it's not viburnum.  I can again see the similarities but having seen the plant it doesn't fit viburnum.  I have to say the images online do match Stephanandra (which I've never heard of).  Both the flowers and the leaves.  Filipendula seems very similar but from googling it the leaves of filipendula seem more deeply lobed.  Thanks everyone

    @Ladybird4 - Stephanandra incisa 'Crispa' has much more divided leaves but S. tanakae's are just like @turmeric's photo...  I'm pretty sure @Asarum is right.   :)

    I agree with Asarum, it's Stephanandra Tanakae.
