African & French marigolds tops nipped off

My marigolds are under attack, heads nipped off then dropped onto soil. I have done night checks no sign of slugs or snails, what else could it be?

Never thought of earwigs, we have lots. Another African bit the dust last night.

I put some sacrificial french marigolds around a border recently after finding some dirt cheap trays of them, thinking the rabbits, slugs, earwigs or whatever else fancied a bite would go for them over the perennials around them. All the perennials have been munched to the ground, the marigolds are the only thing left completely untouched in there. I can only conclude that plants only get eaten if you specifically don't want them to. In future I want ALL my plants to be eaten.

I bought T&M's "Tomato Growing Secret" French Marigolds and planted the out next to my tomatoes. Something has stripped what were healthy flowering plants right down to the ground - nothing left except the root ball. I reckon it is slugs and/or snails. We don't have a problem with deer or rabbits. We do get a few foxes but I can't see them devouring French Marigolds
