Looking forward to 2019

I think most of the major work for this year is done, don’t think I’m growing anything more from seed or bulb now. I’m hoping it’s mostly tidying and enjoying for summer :)

So looking forward to next year I’m noticing there’s not a lot flowering for me May/June.

Is this usually a quiet period between spring daffs and summer proper, or can I look at bringing something else in next year?

Thats one of the most colourful times in my garden.
    Aubretia
    Bearded Iris
    Violas
    Lilac
    Clems
    Geums
    Rhodos
    Azaleas
    Roses
    California Lilac
    That's just a short list

I find early summer into mid summer the time where most things look their best. The leaves are fresh, flowers abundant. Most shrubby Salvias will have started the flowering from mid May. The following are usually flowering mid-May through to mid June. Libertias, Sisyrinchium Striatum, Iris and Geums. Plenty of Geraniums start flowering from May onwards. Campanulas, Viola Cornuta, Astrantias and some Heucheras.

@Tin pot I have the same problem........but last year I planted various veronica seedlings, which are flowering now.  A friend gave me 4 canterbury bells plants, which I am now looking for seeds for, as I love them.  My wallflowers are just gone to seed........foxgloves are also just finishing flowering.  All easy to grow from seed, you'd need to be sowing now though.

Hmm, my Iris haven’t really done anything yet. Nasturtiums are bushy but no flowers really.

A few roses are showing, but nothing compared to the professional looking front gardens around my way.

i am getting some colour from a pink flowered spiraea japonica but it looks much better without flowers imo.

So maybe I could plant delphiniums and sweet williams next year, rose bushes this autumn.  Do you really sow foxgloves now in June?

I thnk the seed packets say sow by the end of May, but l leave it until the middle /end of June. Which reminds me, l had better buy some!

The natural way for foxgloves is to drop the seed in July, which then rapidly germinates. You get bigger plants by sowing earlier.

    Thanks.

How can I tell which variety these are, so that I can get more?

And if anyone would like to suggest which fox gloves it would be appreciated?

    thanks TP
