Which evergreen?

I have a circular raised stone area in the middle of my lawn which I would like to make a feature of.
I want to plant a couple of Desdemona roses in there but want a evergreen shrub/bush to compliment the whiteness of the roses and also to be showing during the winter months.
Any suggestions?

It all depends on the size of the circular area. If too small, why not plant a low evergreen edge around the circular shape with Euonymus Fortunei.
  • Thank you. I was thinking of some height though and in the centre to compliment the roses. The area has a radius of 4'6".

That's not a very big area for two roses and an evergreen shrub.  Would be OK while the roses were young, but one rose can take up that much space on it's own. You could plant Taxus Standishii.  It's a golden yew and grows narrow and straight and can be shaped.

As mentioned, it's quite a small radius. The only thing I can think of right now that might go with the structure of the rose is an informal shape shrub like Coronilla Valentina Subsp. Glauca 'Citrina'.

They don't take up huge amounts of space and have a lovely informal shape and feel. Blue evergreen foliage and fragrant lemon pea-like flowers start flowering in late winter and then on and off throughout spring. Will cover the bare branches of your roses in winter without being too blocky looking. The Foliage will add to the charm in the summer months.
  • That looks lovely thank you!
