Daffs over summer

stuart.dotstuart.dot Posts: 127
I have a load of daffs in 10" pots that flowered beautifully this Spring. I'm not sure what to do with them yet so, if I store them over the summer, do they need watering? I've had bulbs rot if left outdoors in pots, but I'm reluctant to put them in the shed and deprive them of moisture altogether. Any advice appreciated

I've had a big pot of daffs for a few years - they're almost bursting out of it.
When flowering has finished, I give them a little fertilizer and I continue watering them until the foliage has turned mostly yellow. Then I turn the pot on its side and leave it under a garden bench. After a few weeks the foliage has all died and I pull it off, then leave the pot where it is until sept/oct then put it back where I want it, give it a water and off we go again.
    That's my method :)

Pete8. Sounds logical. That way they get moisture from the atmosphere but don't get soaked with rainfall.

That's the idea Stuart. By sept/oct the pot is bone dry, but still has some moisture thanks to rain etc - just seems to keep them ok.
It's worked for me for 4 yrs now, but the pot is a big plastic cauldron and it will burst open soon...
    Good luck!
