Tyre for a planter

Hi everyone,
I am new to gardening and new to the whole garden potting and planting.
My first project is that I have a tyre that I would like to use as a planter, does anyone have any ideas what plants would be good to add into the tyre?
I'm really looking forward to starting my garden with plants to be able keep nice and tidy and get the kids in the garden more.

My next project is planting up the kids old wellies and attaching them to the wall in my garden to brighten the walls up a bit with some nice fairy lights and so.

Any help is much appreciated.

When the first seeds germinate and shoot up in your tyre in the spring you know it's going to be a good year...

Anyway. Will the tyre be on bare earth or paving? Also what size of tyre is it? Tractor tyres make great planters as there's enough room on the edge to sit on so they make a nice bench of sorts. I'd steer clear of edibles just in case the rubber gives off any nasty chemicals.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
  • Its an old used F1 tyre, so the opening is very big to be fair but it is deep.
It will be going on paving with the possibility of moving to a planting area once the garden renovations have happened. Just want to start now in time for completion, and with it been quite summery at the moment I thought some nice plants would brighten my garden up as it is paved and brick walls at the moment. Pavers are coming up and hopefully wither turf or artificial grass (unsure on this too).
My garden is huge and is all paved which is not good with a 5 and 2 year old.

Being bottomless, a tyre is tricky to move once filled with compost and planted up so do be careful about where you site it.
