It's like the petunia starts flowering and decides it's not worth it?

Is there a technical term for this and is this normal?

I've got a bunch of potted trailing petunias and they are doing really well.  I noticed a few times when a couple of flowers start to form, and it's like half way through the flower decided it's not up for it and lets itself wilt away.

It's a little fascinating to watch.  Is this normal? And is there a technical term for this?  Most of the flowers are doing fine, it's just a few I have noticed that do this!

Both the buds and the spent ones look very similar, are you absolutely sure you’re not muddling them up?
