what plant is this?

what plant is this? It is perennial, first flowers in june, they are 4 petalled and yellow. The plant is about 30cm with the stems laying flat  with 2-3 flowers at the tip of each stem. The leaves are about 3 inches long and thin.

    Is it an evening primrose, looks similar but not sure about the leaves.

    Not EP which is much taller and biennial and gets to 1.5m tall.

    Maybe bidens ferulifolia?

    Bidens flowers have 5 petals and these flowers only have 4. A real mystery gerald but there are lots of knowledgeable people on here and I'm sure that your plant will be identified by one of them. I have no idea what it is - sorry.

  • Thanks again,  I have 2 in my rock garden, I don't remember planting these or sowing seeds. I've looked everywhere, encyclos, interactive CDs , pictures, plant identifying sites.... but nothing matches.

    The leaves look like a lavender but the flowers like a buttercup.

    Calylophus serrulatus looks similar. It's a species of evening primrose it's  shrubby low growing.
