    Or a raspberry. To defend crops from slugs try a layer of water retention crystals on top of the soil. Looks a bit messy when they go gooy, but by the time the plants are too big for slugs to bother you can dig it in and it will help with watering.

    If you've got a shady garden grow gooseberries ... they don't need a lot of sun and even the badgers should think twice when confronted by a goosegog bush's fearsome spines.  :)
    :) Four gooseberries, sawfly destruction.  But I'll beat them in the end.  Badgers were out before sun down today.  I'll leave them to it I think.
