ID THIS GERANIUM PLEASE

harmonyharmony Posts: 403
Hi, can someone id this hardy geranium please. It's  about 90cm tall, pale blue/lilac with white centre (reminds me a bit of rozanne but I think its too tall) I cleared this congested area last year but don't remember seeing this before but its quite beautiful and I would like to know more about it. Do I deadhead for more flowers and will it self seed. Thanks

Agree it's a Geranium but as there are so many it's hard to name. You usually cut it back after flowering, leaves as well as flower stems, water and feed and you get new leaves and maybe more flowers. As to self seeding you will have to wait and see in which case don't cut out all the flower stems.

I think it's probably a g. pratense, possibly the native one.

The one I have looks similar to that,Mrs Kendall Clarke,it's tall and quite sparsely flowered,I actually don't think much of it,too washed out looking,I thought it would be a deeper purple/blue and closer to the ground 😁

The fact it reminded you of Rozanne made me think it could be Azure Rush which is a sport of it, but to be honest it's so difficult to i.d. a geranium!  :)

I think the point of Azure Rush is that it's smaller than Rozanne, so although I don't have one of those, I don't think it's that.

I have Azure Rush and the flowers and leaves are quite different. It’s quite a low growing plant as well.

Tbh my Azure Rush has flowers a similar colour to the ones in Harmony's photo. Maybe mine is wrongly labelled !! ( I know photos aren't always accurate :)

I don’t know which one it is, but I do know it’s not Rozanne.

  • I think @raisingirl,..pointed in the right direction,..looks like the wild or native one,..
Geranium maculatum,..there are so many of these Cranes Bill 'Geranium x Pratense',..its difficult to make identification.

Cranes Bill!  That's what I was trying to think of earlier.
