Mystery lamium

DovefromaboveDovefromabove Posts: 88,147
Can anyone identify my mystery lamium please?   I acquired it a couple of years ago as a tiny little thing just labelled 'lamium' thought it might be L. orvala, but I have that in another part of the garden and it's obviously not that.

As you'll see, this one is the same height as I am ... around 5'6 and has wonderful dark purplish-red stems.

Are you sure it's a lamium because it looks very much like a purple form of phlomis I had in Belgium.  Much taller stems than russelliana and leaves shaped like yours tho mine were bigger - maybe a question of light and soil fertility?   Everything grew like it was on steroids in that bed.

Agree Obelixx, it is Phlomis tuberosa.

Is it possible it could be a hybrid Dove?

Well, there you are, thanks folks :)  ... it was labelled lamium and I believed them without question  ... garden gate stall somewhere in the wilds of Norfolk  Thanks folks.

It is very tall and it's going to get quite big for that spot shock  I might have to have a re-think ...

Worth a decent spot Dove.  Lovely plant with bee friendly flowers and big leaves at the base when happy - weed suppressing size in my experience.
