Idle curiosity
I have just demolished two delicious globe artichokes for lunch (not, alas, home grown - I'm not that green-fingered) and now I'm wondering, have I been eating bracts, sepals or bud scales? I know they're not leaves.
In France, I was told that the globe artichoke is considered the ideal food for the poor, because when you've finished eating it, you've got more on your plate than when you started. (For the slower among you - it's a joke.)
