What do you do in the way of watering, do you just mist them every day?
I'm not sure when you mean, but the general way I do it is that between sowing and germination I enclose either in a plastic bag or with a propagator lid over the trays, which stops moisture evaporating away. Therefore no need to water until seedlings appear. Once bits of green start showing I remove the cover and then I occasionally lift up the tray and if it is surprisingly light I'll put the tray in water to absorb moisture from below until the tray is a bit heavy again. When they're young a lot of seedlings are susceptible to rot so it's not good to water from above or to mist. Once they've really got going are in individual pots and have strong thick stems I'll start watering properly, but I only mist if I'm trying to get rid of aphids.
Blimey - that almost sounds like I know what I'm doing.

I plant my seeds in milk cartons, cut in half, but not fully cutting the carton in half. I put holes in the bottom and sides, and leave the cap off, if it rains the seedlings will get rain water. I've never had any seedlings suffering damping off disease. Stand the carton in water and thoroughly wet the compost, it will drain out through the holes you put in the bottom. When the seedlings appear, remove the top half of the carton, let them grow on a little before pricking out. Good luck, it is very satisfying seeing plants in the garden which you have grown yourself.
Thanks Paul, that's very helpful. I tgink that's where i've gone wrong in the past... have overwatered things before they've even sprouted : i'll give it a bash and see what transpires!
