  Any scent if you crush a leaf? The size and speed of growth makes me think Eucalyptus, but I'm just guessing!

  Many thanks for your reply but No, no scent.
  Ive been to several garden centres and asked friends and family but nobody seems to know quite what it is.
  I had a eucalyptus tree once and it’s definitely different to that.

  Yes it’s never bare.

  I was thinking of Holm oak, Quercus ilex. But on a Google image search the leaves look very variable.

  Thanks for your reply,
   I’ve looked at lots of images of hope oak but none of them look like my leaves.
  I should also say for anyone that may be able to help it never has any flowers/fruits or berries just leaves.

  Maybe this guy?  http://www.plantekey.com/plants/fabaceae/acacia-auriculiformis  The leaf type looks very similar.  Or maybe one in that family.

  Hi when I first looked at the pictures I thought no but then looking into the other varieties in the acacia family the black acacia seems pretty close fast growing with a straight trunk my only concern is it says it has flowers and mine never has had any.

  Most Acacia normally grows in hot climates and tropical places.
  Where do you live?
  It will not flower if conditions do not suit it.
  
  In UK Acacia dealbata just about survives  in the south.
