Red dots & sunken patch?

I have noticed a small patch of my garden has sunken, nothing is growing on it and there are some weird red dots that have appeared on it... any idea what it is? There was also half a white egg shell on the same patch last week.

When you say red dots, how big? It looks like a wild strawberry plant in there, with a slug going in for a meal. 🙂
I cant blow the photo up without it going fuzzy, but it looks like the ‘dots’ are joined to a stem?

Are those clover leaves in your pic?
If so, it is a very tiny bit of your garden for you to be worrying about!

There are several red fungi, such as Scarlet Elf Cap and the Red Caterpillar fungus (I sometimes find this one), which grow in damp spots, feeding on decaying matter, wood or caterpillars, whatever.

If something is rotting away below ground, then that may account for the change in level.

That photo is terribly blurred. Could you please provide a better focused pic? Thanks.
