    Ask the neighbours if it's evergreen as to me it looks more like an overgrown shrub than a tree . Very nice though but sorry can't help with naming

    That is very nice indeed ; could it possibly be a very old variegated evergreen Illicium?
    Sometimes known as the Aniseed Tree .

    Illicium is rather a rare shrub for UK gardens.
    Rarer still is the much slower variegated form.

    keepitlive please can you add more pics to this thread when this shrub flowers.
    I am sure I know it but cannot bring the name to mind.

    What height is this 'tree'. It looks like a shrub that has been pruned over the years. It looks like one of the Pieris, but could be totally off the mark.

    The way the leaves turn red when damaged is typical of Pieris.

    Slight fuzziness in pic.2 on my screen , but the bark seems to resemble Pieris .

    I would imagine it looks stunning when the new leaves emerge .
