Reasonably Old Willow Tree Suffering

Hi all,

Im after some urgent help. In my garden is a beautiful willow tree, we have been here 10 years and every spring it produces a beautiful thick covering of leaves. We don't know how old the tree is, but it's a substantial size. It came out early this year, and doesn't have nearly as many leaves as normal, the leaves look shrivelled and wrinkly and stems just stop and turn black, all of this is shown in the attached pictures. Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this? It's not just happening on lower branches, but all the way up and around the tree, even more so at the top.

Thanks for your help in advance.
Matt.

Whereabouts are you?  Did your garden get the full brunt of The Beast from The East, and/or The Pest from The West?

Im in Suffolk, about 3 miles from the North Sea at Dunwich, it was relatively bad here but not as bad as other spots in Suffolk. The garden is quite sheltered from bad winds.
