Hi everyone and thanks for the replies. The grass isn't the hardest bit to maintain although it does grow very quickly, its all the weeds that grow down the side of the house(3rd picture), Labour wise it isn't a problem and cost isn't that much either(see below). But i didn't want to just put a membrane down and all the weeds sprout through it, and it end up looking terrible. Am i better off scrapping the sub base and just going 50-100mm of granite chippings?
With the path, yes thats a priority to get sorted and will be done before the edging is put in.
Cost wise: excavation and soil removal £320 Concrete edging £204 Building sand/cement/ballast £100 Tanalised planks £40 Mot subase 1 (7 tonnes) £320 Granite chippings (6 tonnes) £375 Membrane £50
6 tons of granite chippings seem a lot for the space. Scrap the sub base but pay extra for a good quality underlay - we've just used Terram for our veg beds, a really tough rootproof but porous barrier. Did your contractor do the estimating?
6 tonnes of granite is 67sqm at 50mm depth. Im doing it all myself and thats the best prices i have found. Only thing Im not doing is the excavating with a mini digger
