One of the leaves on my Canna is looking a bit weird wondered if it was the dreaded Canna Virus.  Can anyone help.

  • I have about 10 Canna in the garden and am always watching in case that Virus appears,..so far nothing seen,..your leaf has marks similar to the Canna Virus but only on that leaf nothing on the others,..be it the Virus or not it would be safer to cut off that leaf and burn it,..any Canna Virus i have seen tended to cover more of the leaf than shown in yours,..more mottled or striped yellowish,..hopefully this isn't the Virus.

Thanks Philip.  I hope it's not the virus too.  I have fed them with Tomorite recently and wonder if that could have caused it.  Maybe I should feed with something else.  I've just noticed that one other canna has a similar mark in it's leaf but much smaller.

@Hostafan1 has experience of the Canna virus ...

I thought the discolouration followed the veins in the leaf ...

Had a look on the internet Dove and it doesn't look like the images but I don't know what it could be.

I don't think that is virus.
I have seen many images of it and it does not look like it.

Beginning to breath a sigh of relief but I'd love to know what's caused it.  The leaf feels like all the others, not floppy like it might be if it was overwatered, even then I'm sure it would affect more than one leaf.

I think it looks like sun scorch which often happens when plants first go into the garden.

I suppose it could be, although they have been outside for a few weeks now in the same spot and we have had it hotter than this.  As long as it's nothing to worry about I'm not bothered by the discolouration.  I was just worried about it spreading to the others.
    Thanks for your input everyone.

  • Hello, did you find the cause in the end?  My cannas grown indoors from seeds are all showing the same signs.  I was wondering if I had overfed them too as most people from fb don’t think it is the virus.. much appreciated.
