Shady area - north facing plant recommendations, please

Our ‘pond’ is an ex-patio bucket which was sunk into the new lawn in May.  I’ve allowed the lawn to grow there, as cover for our frogs.  The fence faces north, so I’m hoping for plant recommendations for this challenging area - both immediately next to the pond in the long grass, as well as under the shade of the elder tree, as the new lawn is struggling there.  Woodland plants maybe, as our elder towers over it. Thanks. Chris

It sounds as though your pond has steep sides.  If you haven't already, you should contrive a means of escape for any critters that fall in.

You’re right, and I have a pile of bricks that are going in asap.
