Rose disease

Hi all,

I’m hoping that someone more knowledgeable will be able to help with a virus my roses seem to be suffering from. I’ve attached a photo... a number of my roses seem to have the same thing.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance for your help.

Are there any insects or grubs under the leaves?
    In London. Keen but lazy.
  • Thanks for the quick response, but no, nothing that I can see.

A picture of the whole plant including new leaves might help the more knowledgeable forum members to identify the problem.

Is it just the leaves on the lower part of your plant?
If it is, my guess would be the weird and very cold weather we had earlier in the year

  • This is a whole plant. There are definitely more on the lower leaves.

I think the affected leaves were where Rose sawfly eggs were layed and the caterpillars ate a small area before moving up the plant.  See if you can find any caterpillars on any newer leaves which have holes in.  If not, the local predators may have already seen them off. :)   Some images of Rose sawfly damage by google.

What a beauty! which rose is it?
It looks like a very healthy plant to me. I don't think there's anything to concern yourself with. If the leaves that have appeared over the last few weeks are good, then my guess would be weather damage when the leaves were forming.
If it seems to be getting worse, then it's def. not the weather

  • Excellent news... I was concerned that it was something serious. It’s a David Austin one; Mary Rose. Thank you very much for the help (as always!)
