We have a similar issue with anything new planted. Never sure if cats, or fixes, as we have both. I have solved it by putting a later of stone chippings/ flints over the surface of all my puts (also helps keep the skso moist!), and by placing random bits of slab / stone around newly planted things for the first few weeks while the cost is still soft and attractive for digging. I use hand size pieces (we have lots of old paving lying around) and it covers enough of the surface area to make it hard work.

Good luck! I know it can be so disheartening. Most of the things I've replanted have gone on to do ok, so I hope yours do too.
  • It is devastating but even through my tears I could never really be angry at the foxes - the garden might have my name on the deeds but it's their planet too. As I am frequently reminded, whenever I work in my (small) garden and the birds hop above and around me in an irritated fashion wanting to get onto the feeders saying (I imagine) "Get out of our garden!". I would never want to not have wildlife in the garden and the constant stealing of anything not tied down to use as a toy by the foxes had until now been quite amusing.... Hopefully the mass destruction was just a one off caused by the new compost + cub combination - this morning all looks quiet, thankfully!

Also stone chippings is a great idea Rose121 - I'm going to invest in some!

Foxgloves Papi Jo - very good!  :D
The only thing that keeps foxes out of anything, is electric fencing. That's a pain  if you have to do that, although you can get some 'sets' which aren't too dear. Might be the best option in the long run though.
Re bits of stone - the foxes just sh*t on that round here.....
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • Haha fairygirl, I imagine they would here too, out of sheer contempt!  :D
