Mini stone wall - ideal plants for east-facing aspect

ChrisWMChrisWM Posts: 214
The following photo shows the top view. From the side, there are many openings, some large, which I plan to narrow with large rocks. Does anyone have suggestions for plants that would be ok for a east-facing aspect? Thanks.

I used to have a patio garden until May, when it was laid to lawn and borders. The ‘landscapers’ used much bigger stones than briefed, but hey ho. I plan to narrow the gaps with the copious amounts of stone found in our soil, then filled with a compost/grit mix. I’d say the east side is exposed to direct sun for about half the day plus.

Should be fine for most of the alpines. I would go to the garden centre and see if I could get a job lot and then see how they do over the next year. The problem you will have planting them just now is trying to keep them watered without washing out the soil. I would wait until the autumn before planting.

I was thinking of sticking to one plant, campanula ‘blue waterfall’. It will work well against the stone colour, freely self seeds and is a great all round plant. Putting in lots of different plants would be a mistake.
Nice idea.  Thanks. I was already minded to use Campanula, and reading up on this one, it ticks a lot of the boxes.  Is this a good time to plant Campanula in, or should I wait until autumn?

Eek! Are those roses going in the wall? I have a very similar limestone wall in my ENGLISH (are you listening Fire?) garden and there are several plants that do extremely well planted directly between the stones: Snow-in-summer (Cerastium tomentosum), Aubretias, small Campanulas, Saxifrages, Alpine Pansies, Toadflax, Stonecrop (Sedum) Good luck. One I forgot. How could I? Stonecrop (Sedum). The yellows are the best.
