Pruning Photinia Red Robin Tree

DosDos Posts: 4
Hi I have a Photinia Red Robin, which is grown as a tree. I do some gentle pruning yearly, but it has now grown up to about 4 meters and I just want to reduce the size to about 2.5-3 m , just to keep it in control.
Do you have any advice on hard pruning Photinina and when will be the best time of the year to do it?
And do you prune it yearly after that and when?

Photinias can be prune back hard if you need to. The best time is in spring into early summer, so if you must, you can do it now. In order to keep it bushy, you should give them a light trim every year. If not, they will branch out and grow into a more loose shape creating an informal look.

Each shrub shape will be different, so it's hard to advise on your pruning. Just shorten the main branches back and then shorten the side shoots down. If your stems are very thick, cut at a slant to avoid water sitting on them.
