Grasses that don't self seed

turmericturmeric Posts: 830
Hello, I'd like to get a grass for my garden but I don't want one that will seed everywhere or be too tall if possible.  My preference is for something deciduous to make it easy to keep it tidy and something that has a height of around 75cm with purplish plumes that will blow in the wind?  I was looking at Pennisetum alopecuroides 'Hameln' but if anyone has any better suggestions I'd be really grateful to hear them.  Many thanks.

the one you mention is not hardy and unlikely to become a nuisance

Not hardy :/ That's not ideal then.  But I've just been looking at Stipa tenuissima.  I realise the plumes aren't purply but their colour might actually blend in better with more plants.  Does this one self seed prolifically nutcutlet?

Thank you Fire.  C. 'Karl Foerster' will be too large but I'll take a look at your other suggestions.

Stipa tenuissima self seeds but they're easy to pull up
