I planted an Acanathus at the bottom of my garden 30 yrs ago and I have never managed to get it all out just under control. Your soil does look very hard.

The roots of yuccas are huge water-storing organs.  I grew one from seed about 20 years ago and removed it (for the same reasons as you) about 5 years ago.  Bloody hard work!  The only thing that came close was removing a huge pampas grass (which I also grew from seed.)  Nothing like sowing the seeds of your own destruction! :D
A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

Bob I assume you are not currently nurturing any Japanese knotweed? 😂 I fear I may need a canary and a gas lamp! That’s this garden all over though, just has to be done and I’m all out of fairy dust!

Ha! Now, I’ve had a thought, often dangerous and I’m sure my husband has just groaned in some extra sensory perception fandangelry, as I haven’t said it out loud yet! What are the chances of these beasts growing through concrete? I ask because the rubble area to the left is going to be my veg garden (after rubble removal obviously!). I was going to have a little potting shed in it BUT if I put my shed on top of the F words I will have much more space for growing! I can put in a step down to the shed....the flowers etc in that bed have just been stuffed in there with no plan and can go elsewhere...
