Many years ago in ignorance I planted one of these in my garden.  It said"clump forming" on the label but missed out crucial piece of information that the clumps were indefinite spread.  So for 20 years we have battled to contain it but now it has to go as it has cracked a retaining wall.  I have noticed that this year it is flowering and a vague memory that bamboo dies after flowering but I have a feeling that's not going to be the case.  Roundup doesn't touch so is there something on the market that will kill it?

    An axe?   Try SBK or its equivalent which is what I was advised to use when I told a local chap I was having trouble killing major weeds and they just laughed off glyphosate based stuff.

    I'm thinking mini digger as I'm quite lazybeing only 27 butt there's an electric cable running through the area.

    Maybe not an axe either then.

    We have a very large clump of Provençal cane spreading in one part of our garden.  It's deciduous so looks horrendous half the year and isn't attractive IMO the rest of the year when it's green.   Got OH to cut down every single stem with the loppers thus giving us 100s of bamboo like canes up to 4m and more.   I may well resort to SBK next year if it insists on spreading but will spray the new growth, not the old, so I get maximum transport of the deadly chemicals to the roots.

    Thanks so it's chemicals and hard graft.  Hopefully by the time I get to it will die.
