Nitrogen for blueberries?

TraTra Posts: 38

Hello,

Ive read that bluberries thrive when fed with regular doses of nitrogen such as rotted manure. However I am led to believe that feed with liquiod ericicuous fertilizer is best. Would anyone know if I should/should not add some manure to my potted blueberries alongside feeding with ericicuos liquid fertliser? Many thanks!

    Personally  I wouldn't.
Blueberries are quite fussy with regard to soil pH/hardness.
If you stick with ericaceous compost and feed for ericaceous plants (I use miracle-grow for azaleas) and only use rainwater, then you know that the conditions will be good for your blueberries - which is what I do and mine are thriving.
If you add manure as well, it may cause problems or it may not, but there's no point in taking the risk from my point of view.

Really good advice Pete – many thanks – I have since read on RHGS site that adding rotted manure to blues is to be avoided –

I shall keep going as I am watering with rainwater and add the feed as you suggest – many thanks!
