What can I plant other than grass in a sunlight 40 foot by 30 foot raised bed that will require as little maintenance as possible?

    What sort of soil is it?  How much sun?  What's the drainage like? Is it sheltered or exposed?

    And most of all, what sort of thing would you like to see there?

    Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

    Lavender, salvias, rosemary, hebe if it's not too exposed to cold, verbascum, yucca

    Depends on the soil type and drainage really and how cold you get in winter and whether you want formal or informal and all year round interest - colour, foliage, stems, perfume.
