Tree I.d.

I noticed this growing out of a old plaster bucket that I had filled with soil last season in the corner of my garden , I thought it looked like a tree so decided to see if i could  grow it  , after several potting ons it turned out into a 6 ft tree which I think may be a crab apple ? Could anybody I.d for me .
I’ve also noticed a load of little green catterpillars munching on the leaves , any suggestions on how to rid and are they cabbage white butterfly catterpillars ?
 Thanks in advance

I think it may be a goat willow and not worth keeping but I may be wrong so wait for other suggestions.  I'd leave the caterpillars for the birds as they will hoover them up to feed to their chicks in the nest.  Otherwise, just blast them off with a spray from the hose pipe or pick off by hand and put on the bird table or squish.

It looks as if it could be a goat willow that regularly turn up in gardens. The caterpillars look like the larvae of goat willow sawflies.
