Re Amazon Prime ... if you have the trial free month you must remember to cancel the automatic payment before the month is up, otherwise by accepting the free month and not cancelling you've given authority for them to take the payment. I cancelled mine yesterday ... the month is up on the 7th. I set a reminder on my iPhone to remind me to do this each time I take up the free month and they've not trapped me yet
They got me by offering a £5 voucher if I downloaded their app and then automatically signing me up to prime by accepting the app. I didn't even get any emails to say I had prime so didn't even get to use it The first thing I knew was when they took a payment.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
You just have to acknowledge that your life is chaotic and set up systems to help you remember the really important stuff otherwise your world comes tumbling down ...

Ah, and you have to assume there's a catch and read the small print ... no such thing as a free lunch ...

Yep lesson leaned I had assumed they made the money through more targetted advertising. I spent the fiver and deleted the app. but as they say; if something is free on the internet then you are the product being sold.
I don't really mind adverts on the internet as long as they don't get in the way. After all the marketing people pay for most free sites to keep going. Like Simone Giertz said "adverts are like a dog taking a sh*t on your floor, but it doesn't do it on the carpet where it's really hard to clean up, it does it in the bathroom and you're like, I still don't like it, I'd prefer it not to be there but at least you did it in a decent spot."
The difference is that Amazon are basically out to get you, and I don't think SR are. Their customer service has been exemplary when I've had cause to use it (ie: when I've ordered something no longer available). It's a pain that you have to keep on at them but it does sound like a banking issue rather than intenional. Maybe the poor sods use Lloyds AND Visa - that would be enough to cause repeated problems.
