Overnight problem with alpines

A selection of small alpines seemed to be quite healthy until yesterday morning when much of the foliage was white and dead.  I brushed a lot off and it's on the ground in front of the container.

The plants are still well rooted.

I presume is some sort of blight but what and can they be saved?

How odd, especially to die and turn white that quickly. I'd almost assume overspray from weedkiller to act that quickly. The soil does look a bit damp and weedy to be ideal from alpines but it shouldn't cause that.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

Haven't used a weedkiller within 10 yards of the patio where the pot is.

I have problems stopping my wife overwatering some pot plants.

Cat / dog / fox pee? Weed spray from over the fence?

Those look like sedums rather than true alpines ... very susceptible to over watering ...
