Mother in law's tongue like a scene from 'Alien'

Hi all, I'm new to the forum and have a quick question about my mother in law's tongue (the plant of course 😁)
Since I moved house last year they have been doing really well, lots of growth. My question is about one particular growth.
With my particular plant new shoots have always come from under the soil with just two or three curled leaves to start with. But this newest growth has burst its way out of the side of the 'mother' (hence my reference to the film 'Alien') and seems to have many tightly bound leaves. Its now in a sort of L shape where its burst out the side and is now reaching for the sky.
Pictures attached (one pic of my normally sprouting shoots).
Is this normal growth? Is it the beginning of a flower? P.S. This has been growing for several months now.

Apologies for the long post
