I found this growing in the gravel, can anyone ID what type of fungus it is please.

I think that's an organism known as a Slime Mould ... more info here

Thanks Dove...I agree, though it was very firm when pressed and I really had to chop quite hard to remove it from the gravel, lets hope I don't get an infestation so to speak.
