New plant to replace pendulous sedge

I'm looking for a bit of inspiration/advice.
We have just removed a pendulous sedge from the back of our pond where it hid the pumping equipment. It had got about 3ft deep and 5ft wide and we are constantly pulling up new pieces that have self seeded.
What we would like is a plant that doesn't spread, isn't deciduous and can grow about 2 - 3ft tall and about 3ft wide
It would be in the sun for most of the day and in a rich damp soil.
Thank you for your help  :-)

[Pendulous Sedge would be a great name for a character in a Gothic novel. Not very helpful. Sorry.]

Ligularias would love it, but aren't evergreen unfortunately.
Euonymous would probably be fine - they're not all completely hardy in a rough winter, so it depends whereabouts you are etc. Some Hebes will actually cope very well with that, as long as the soil isn't waterlogged. Phormiums are the same.
How big exactly is the area you need to disguise? Could you plant a couple of things like ferns - an evergreen like Hart's Tongue [Asplenium] with a deciduous one that starts growing early in the year?
Many rhodos and azaleas will cope with sun, if they're damp at their feet, and if your soil is suitable. The dwarf azaleas are better, size wise. The flowers would get a bit bleached though. Likewise -  Pieris.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

I think Nadina Domestica, the sacred bamboo would be ideal. Elegant creamy white flowers and red berries that last for a long time if given a sheltered and warm aspect. The habit is more upright than spreading.
  • Thanks guys for the ideas.
We live in the south of England, so winters aren't too bad.
The area to hide is about 3ft wide and about 2ft tall  (we already have a bamboo to one side, an upright one that seems to now be creeping!!). We've actually found a Hart's Tongue Fern that was enveloped in the sedge.
A selection of plants are fine, but would prefer them to keep their foliage.
    I'll check out your suggestions.
    Thank you
