Thinning out apples

When should you thin out apples on your tree, so as to get less apples but bigger ones,  when the little fruit buds first start growing or wait until they develop and look like apples?

I think it's a Stobo Castle apple tree I have, fruits quite early I believe (August/Sept).

Any advice appreciated.

Wait until after the 'June drop'  or you may end up with very few apples.

  • Thanks Dove, I didn't know that I'd lose some first. Much appreciated.  :)
