What’s this?

We’ve just moved house and these have started sprouting next to an old rhododendron and overgrown lawn.  Any ideas what it is? And what can we do with it?
any help will be much appreciated.

Horse tail. It's an invasive weed so pull it up wherever you see it.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

What can you do with it?  I've read that, due to its high silica content, it used to be used for scouring pans.  Never tried it myself, but such a bothersome plant ought to have some redeeming feature.

Free pan scourers to boot! Handy 😀
