Allium flowers changing colour

I have a giant allium. Last year it produced beautiful, large purple globe of flowers. This year it has come up white. Two other smaller alliums have done exactly the same thing. Is this normal? What's happened? Thanks.

Maybe a hybrid reverting to wild type?
