I have best germination with sweet peppers from fresh seeds, I buy a pepper in the supermarket and put the seeds straight into the compost.
Ive got Orange Rapture small sweet tomatoes growing for which I did the same thing.

Orange Rapture is an F1 variety (actually a variety called Oranjestar F1), so the seeds won't breed true. An interesting experiment, and one I've done a few times before, but it's not a good idea unless you've got space and don't mind unexpected and possibly disappointing results.
How strange, all six seeds sown are Orange Rapture and ripening nicely.

That's good to hear, and I hope you get good results.

What you're actually growing are effectively 'Orange Rapture F2', so there's a genetic lottery there. When other people, including me, have done the same thing, we've got mixed results. Hopefully you will be lucky with at least some of your plants.

Would be interested to see some pics of the ripened fruit and hear what they taste like.

I have saved and sown several Piccolo seeds from a supermarket punnet.
plants look good with fruits (green so far) looking of a similar size to the real thing.
will report back when they go through the "taste test".
  • Sorry only just seen this. I got the same plants from T&M and they were the same condition as yours but 6 weeks on they are all tall, healthy plants with tomatoes on some of them, hope yours turned out the same after a very disappointing start!

    Elizabeth - I should've persevered then.
I was so fed up with them that I didn't think they deserved the expense of a couple off grow bags, and dumped them.
Concentrated on some piccolo and old heritage tomato seeds instead.
    (all doing well)
