Slugs have eaten everything!! 😭

I am so sad and just had to vent my disappointment. I planted out at least 14 strong healthy morning glory plants that I had lovingly grown from seed. I was looking forward to having it climb up my trellis and give beautiful colour through the summer. Sadly the next day I find the nasty slimy slugs have had a dinner party and they have ALL been munched. 😭 Mostly all the leaves are gone and just leaving a short stem left in the ground. I will definitely need to look at nematodes for next year. Is it too late to use them now. Most slugs are getting bigger now so does it still work on the big fat ones as well as the tiny ones?

It's such a sad feeling. At the moment I am going out in the morning to see what has survived the night. Good luck with it.

I feel your pain Claire, slugs and snails are a perennial nuisance. I've stopped growing anything they like in the ground, only using tubs on concrete where I can sprinkle a ring of salt around each tub. It's allowing me to grow larkspur and cornflowers (two favourites of molluscs) which would otherwise end up like your poor morning glory. One tip, grow more hairy/furry leaved plants, they don't seem to like those so much.

Yes I will have to heed your advice for next time!! Any ideas of what I can plant to grow up the trellis quickly that they won't devour??

They will devour most annual climbers, you could use some of these,

theres absolutely no need to turn your soil blue, as I’ve seen on here occasionally, you just need one single pellet per 4sq inches. So about 4 or 5 only around a plant,  the slugs disappear so no chance of anything eating them.
