Plant ID - please

Hi, I've got a plant which seeded itself in a filthy waterlogged pot, in a corner between the shed and a fence, a couple of years ago. Assumed just a weed - I left it there as there seemed little point in killing it.

Was ignored for a long while, along with the rest of the garden, as we had an extension being built.

I noticed that it was growing very upright like a tree. This last autumn I saw that it was deciduous. The leaves had quite a nice colour to them before they fell.

So this year I picked it up out of the waterlogged pot and moved it into a better position in the garden and it has grown very strongly.

Haven't seen it flower and no signs of flowering/fruiting buds.

Does anyone have any idea what it is?

I'm going to say goat willow and if it is please don't plant it that close to the wall.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

I agree with WE.They get quite big and don't do anything particularly interesting for a long time.

Loads of self seeders here, what a job to get them out, for tiny seedlings they have a very long root. Sometimes I spray them, it’s the only way, if you break the root it will grow up again.

Thank you! Having a look online it does look like Goat Willow.

In that case I'll probably free the space up for something else.

    Interesting to find out anyway
